Sandridge residents in tree planting boost

Residents will be able to make their mark on a forest in Sandridge this weekend by planting a tree.

Heartwood Forest will host its final tree planting session of the season on Saturday, March 16.

Organisers are on the lookout for members of the public to help them plant the 10,000 trees.

Louise Neicho, Woodland Trust site manager, said: "As it’s the last public tree planting of the season we hope people can turn out in number to help us reach our tree planting target.

"With over three years’ worth of planting having taken place anyone visiting should now start to see the progression of Heartwood and its impact on wildlife as the trees begin to link up with the existing areas of ancient woodland."

More than 385,000 trees have already been planted on the site, with the help of keen residents, in the trust’s bid to create England’s largest native woodland.

The session will take place from 10am until 3pm.
