Green-fingered children will have the opportunity to make St Albans bloom as they are invited to enter a gardening competition.

Schools can enter the St Albans District in Bloom competition, organised by the district council as a way of learning about sustainable gardening techniques, while having fun growing flowers and vegetables.

The judges for Best School Project will look at how school entrants helped to enhance the appearance of the district with their gardening techniques.

Last year’s joint winners of Best School Project were Manland Primary School, Harpenden and Watling View School, St Albans.

To enter the competition visit http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/parks-and-green-space/districtinbloom/DIB2013_app.aspx or pick up an entry form from the council’s offices at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street.

They can also be picked up at Aylett Nurseries on North Orbital Road, St Albans.

The deadline for entries is April, 30.
