Harpenden Lions Club has raised more than £1,500 over the Christmas period in aid of worthwhile causes.

Despite downpours of rain, on Saturday, December 21 members carried out a tin shake in Harpenden and Southdown shopping areas to raise £830 for Harpenden Community Meeting Point.

On Monday, December 23 the Lions organised a raffle during The Lea Singers Christmas evening concert at Harpenden Public Halls and £720 for the Harpenden Lions Life Skills programme in local schools.

Steve Gledhill from Harpenden Lions said: “To raise £1,550 during the busy time before Christmas illustrates the generosity of local residents.

“The Lions, Community Meeting Point and the children who will benefit from the Life Skills scheme are all grateful to the many donors. Thank you.”
