The one-day exhibition, staged by the Brambleton Railway Club, saw several locomotive societies from across the South East gather under one roof to present their life-like layouts.

The show featured 13 model layouts, demonstrations and trade stalls selling a range of collectables.

Harvey Foster, exhibition manager, said: "We did exceedingly well. I am very pleased.

"Because of the snow last January, we struggled to break through. However this year we had approximately 1,200 people through our doors, which I am very pleased about.

"We aim to be a family show, so we had a lot of parents along with their children. We had a lot going on and the youngsters seemed to enjoy themselves."

Brambleton began life as an unofficial boys club in 1947 before forming as the Brambleton Model Railway Club in January 1956.

A layout set in Cornwall, depicting a Cornish scene was one among the favourites at the show.

Mr Foster, who has been at the club since 1975 added: "Now we are looking forward to planning our outdoor afternoon show on May 5, which will take place at Harpenden’s Highfield Oval in Ambrose Lane from 2pm."

Proceeds raised during the show will go towards maintaining and improving the exhibition.
