Volunteer groups in St Albans gathered to discuss how to "shine a light" on hidden victims of domestic abuse at a conference yesterday.

More than 100 professionals and volunteers heard about housing options for victims and dealing with non-violent offences of domestic abuse.

The financial abuse of older people and the victimisation of people who have mental illness or learning disabilities was also discussed.

Penny Williams, chair of the St Albans and Hertsmere Domestic Violence Forum, said: "Our aim is to shine a light on the many hidden victims of domestic abuse.

"This is the eighth annual conference that the two forums have put on with the aim of expanding the knowledge of domestic abuse amongst statutory and voluntary organisations so that they can better help people coming to them for support and share their experiences."
