Charities in St Albans are being encouraged to snap up free space in the city centre.

There is room in the Ziggurat building in Grosvenor Road, thanks to a Charity Centric Community Projects, which aims to create charity hubs in empty commercial buildings.

Although there are already some charities operating from Ziggurat, CCP co-ordinator Charlotte Russo said there is still some available space.

CCP co-ordinator Charlotte Russo said: "We are keen for other charities to be able to take advantage of this free space as this can really help charities in their good work.

"I have personally found it so lovely in the other buildings filled, where I have seen the different charities become friends. The charities have networked together and as a result done amazing projects in helping the local community."

The charity is able to do this when landlords donate their empty commercial offices and buildings, rather than leaving them unused.

Ms Russo added: "This is totally free of charge with no rent, rates or utility bills to pay.

However, charities who want a phone line or WI-FI connection have to pay the cost.

Centric works on a six-month basis with 30 days’ notice on either side. If the building or office still has no new businesses starting after the six months, the lease can be renewed for another six months, again with 30 days’ notice.

Charities or groups interested in the scheme should contact Ms Russo on 01908 667750 or e-mail charlotte.russo@centricprojects.org.
