World famous London Welsh Male Voice Choir was welcomed back to Harpenden to raise more than £2,500 for charity.

The choir first performed at the High Street Methodist Church, in 2013 and this year returned to fundraise for St Albans based addiction treatment charity, The Living Room, and church funds.

Under the baton of Edward-Rhys Harry, the London Welsh Male Voice Choir performed an extensive repertoire of both secular and spiritual music at the sell-out concert.

Their songs included ‘Bring him home’ from ‘Les Miserables’, ‘An American Trilogy’ and ‘Gweddi'r Arglwydd’ (The Lord's Prayer in Welsh). The concert finished with an enthusiastic audience singing the Welsh national anthem, in Welsh.

Local soprano, Alison Langer, and tenor Lawrence Thackeray entertained the audience with songs including ‘Mister Snow’ from ‘Carousel’, ‘and a duet from ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

The Living Room has been selected by the city’s Mayor, Annie Brewster, as one of her Mayoral charities. She told the audience why she had chosen to support the charity during her a mayoral year.

She said: "I am very grateful to High Street Methodist Church, the London Welsh Male Voice Choir and the talented soloists for supporting the Living Room. You have enabled so much money to be raised for the charity. It was a tremendous honour to experience this world famous 80-strong choir performing such a moving programme.

"They brought a lovely bit of Wales to Harpenden. Having performed in the London 2012 Closing Ceremony, they also provided us with a wonderful sprinkling of Olympic Legacy. Congratulations to everyone involved on a stunning evening."

The concert was also attended by the Town Mayor of Harpenden, Rosemary Farmer.
