St Albans Cathedral pulling out all the stops for brass and organ ensemble
A lunchtime Bank Holiday treat is in store for visitors to St Albans Cathedral next month.
A free concert of music to showcase the combined power of a ten-part brass ensemble, percussion and the Cathedral organ, will take place on Monday, May 5, at 1pm.
Cambridge-based ensemble Prime Brass will make its third visit to the Abbey to perform under the direction of Paul Trepte, Director of Music at Ely Cathedral.
Their programme includes works by Strauss, Purcell, Dupré and Françaix. The organ will be put through its paces by Tom Winpenny, assistant master of the music at the cathedral.
Tom Winpenny said: "We are delighted to welcome again the acclaimed group Prime Brass to perform at the cathedral, under the direction of Paul Trepte.
"The programme explores a huge range of styles from the 18th century through to the 20th century.
"This is a rare chance to hear some majestic and inspiring works which were composed to demonstrate the might of combining brass instruments with the thrilling sound of a cathedral organ."
