A new £2million indoor sports centre has been officially unveiled at a St Albans school.

The Mayor of St Albans, Annie Brewster, opened the super-sized sports hall at Sandringham School along with Michael Owen, former Wales and British Lions Rugby Captain.

The facilities include a super-sized main sports hall, a large air-conditioned multi-purpose dance and aerobics studio, a weights and fitness room together with large changing areas, offices and reception.

Members of Sandridge Parish Council and school governors were shown around the facilities by year 10 students before joining the entire school in the main sports hall for the official opening ceremony.

Three young gymnasts from Spring Loaded, a Hertfordshire trampoline club demonstrated trampolining to the audience, including Matt Chipperfield from Sandringham, who performed various maneuvers and routines to visitors Alan Gray, headteacher at The Ridgeway school thanked the parish council for donating £50, 000, T & B construction, Property Tectonics and the school governors for achieving the project.
