Rush hour gridlock in St Albans is the second worst in the country, according to report
St Albans has been named the second worst city in the country for rush hour gridlock, according to a newly published report.
The city ranks in the top three of the traffic jam league only a slow crawl behind the worst offender, Canterbury.
The new survey, conducted by Direct Line Drive Plus is based on 20 million miles worth of data and compares speeds at peak and off peak times.
It says that rush hour in St Albans adds 8.9 minutes to a journey.
The rush hour speed across the district is also fairly slow at just an average of 12.95 mph - the 16th slowest in the country - compared to the fastest average of 25.18mph in Newport.
The busiest day for traffic in St Albans is Thursday, according to the survey.
