A new access ramp to make walking, running and cycling easier for old and young alike at the Nickey Line will open on Saturday.
Families will get the opportunity to take part in free creative activities such as Spin Art, make your own Bike Smoothie, a family Treasure Hunt and bring along your bikes for free Dr. Bike safety checks between 12noon and 2pm.
The Friends of the Nickey Line will also be there to offer information about the old railway that once ran between Harpenden and Hemel Hempstead.
Nigel Brigham, Regional Director for Sustrans said: "We hope that lots of people will come and support the opening and see how walking, running and cycling on the Nickey Line can be a great way to get out and about in a safe traffic free environment.
“We would love the whole community to be involved in celebrating the opening of the access ramp this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the cycle way.”
The Deputy Mayor of St Albans, Janet Churchard, and Councillor Daniel Chichester-Miles will join in on the fun in Ambrose Lane.
During the afternoon, there will also be an organised traffic-free family cycle ride along the Nickey Line from Ambrose Lane to Redbourn and back which is about 5 miles in total.
