A 20-year-old who died after his motorbike collided with a van was St Albans college student Jack Alexander.

Mr Alexander, who was riding his red and white Yamaha YZFR6, died in the crash with a silver Volkswagen transporter panel van on the B656 Royston Road in Baldock last Thursday, July 17.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance attended, but Mr Alexander, who lived in Stotfold, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shocked staff at Oaklands College said the mechanical engineering student will be "sorely missed" and have offered their condolances to Mr Alexander’s family.

Sean Scully, director of student experience, said: "We are all deeply shocked to hear this tragic news. Jack will be sorely missed by his fellow students and staff. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

Police closed the road, near to the junction with Clothall Road, from 7.46am until 11.10am to carry out investigations.
