Work is underway to raise funds to transform the grade II* listed town hall in St Albans into a new museum and art gallery.

The £6.75 million "Renaissance: St Albans" project will see the Museum of St Albans and the UH Gallery move from Hatfield Road to St Peter’s Street as part of the development.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has already pledged £2.8 million towards the cost of the new museum and gallery project - including an initial award for first phase development funding of £282,000.

St Albans District Council, St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust and the University of Hertfordshire are working to raise the balance.

St Albans MP Anne Main recently attended a lunch with Business Minister Ed Vaizey to promote the new museum and gallery. Anne said; "I was delighted to put my name to this project.

"We have such a long and rich cultural history in St Albans, a new museum and gallery will display the wonderful heritage we have, and continue to promote St Albans in the decades that follow."
