A fun day in Harpenden has raised more than £1,000 for a charity providing services for people with learning disabilities.

The event held on Saturday in the Methodist Church in High Street had multiple activities for children including icing biscuits, storytelling corner, various train displays to see and Thomas the Tank engine up on the big screen.

In addition there were steam train DVD's, and a display from the St Albans Signal box volunteers.

They money raised will go to Harpenden Mencap. One of the event’s organisers Maggie Grand said the day went “really well”.

She said: “We were busy all day and have had great feedback from the children and families who attended.

“It was a lovely family day and a great atmosphere in the hall helped by actual steam and the sound of steam trains as you approached through a tunnel and so many trains to see and activities to do.

“We have raised over £1,000 for Harpenden Mencap too so Joseph Hammond, the Station Master, and the events team at High Street Methodist Church are delighted.”
