A resident from Radlett is speaking out about how the local council are wasting the tax-payers money.

Steve Oaksmonger, 56, of Park Road wrote a letter to the Watford Observer last week saying that Hertfordshire County Council had repainted some keep clear lines outside the old fire station on Watling Street.

The fire station closed eight years ago.

Steve said: "I was just pointing out they were wasting money as they don't actually intend to re-open the fire station.

"But now they have gone and wasted more tax-payers money by coming and removing the sign. And it also looks horrible."

Kevin Carrol, Ringway divisional manager, working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, said: "During a wider programme to refresh the road markings in Radlett, the road markings outside the fire station were also renewed.

"The crew did not realise the fire station was no longer in operation but once this came to light, agreed to remove the road markings permanently to prevent a similar mistake being made in future.

"We can only apologise for any inconvenience caused and reassure residents that we are covering the cost of both the initial marking and removal."
