Children from a school in Chiswell Green celebrated National Poetry Day by performing poetry to the mayor.
Pupils from each class at Killigrew Primary School recited and acted special poems for Councillor Geoff Harrison, other school children and visitors including parents, grandparents, carers and staff.
The Parent Teachers Association sold refreshments on Thursday helping to raise £530 to buy books for the school libraries.
Councillor Geoff Harrison, Mayor of St Albans, said: "The children celebrated National Poetry Day in fine style. They performed the poems with enthusiasm, using actions and costumes to bring the words to life. I hope this will be the foundation of a life-long enjoyment of poetry."
