A teenager from St Albans scooped a national fitness award after numerous battles with cancer.

Bailey Sarwa, 15, battled Neuroblastoma twice and underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and two bone marrow transports before taking up fitness regimes to rebuild his strength and fitness.

But the teenager, who trains with personal trainer, Tom Gregory, at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, Holywell Hill, picked up the Member Achievement Award at the National Fitness Awards 2014 on Friday, November 28.

Bailey said: "I cannot believe I won"

"There's no way I could have done it without Tom. I would like to say thank you [Tom] very much. I will get back to the gym when my knees are better. The award is in my bedroom for everyone to see."

Lesley Garner, Everyone Active General Manager at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre said: "We are so thrilled that Bailey won this award and that all his determination and hard work with Tom has been recognised".

"He is a fighter and a true inspiration to everyone around him.

"We are very proud of Bailey and as a reward we have offered him a complimentary lifetime membership at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre so he can continue to enjoy the facilities and improve his health and fitness."

Former boxer Ricky Hatton and sports model and tv presenter Caroline Pearce presented the awards throughout the evening.
