Officers in Hertfordshire held minute silences this morning following yesterday’s massacre in Paris which claimed the lives of two policeman.

The mark of respect was paid after two officers were shot dead in the French capital yesterday when armed gunmen targeted satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Colleagues at the Hertfordshire Constabulary headquarters in Welwyn Garden City held the silence at 11am.

Nine journalists at the magazine’s offices and a maintenance man were also killed.

Chief Constable Andy Bliss said: “Hertfordshire Constabulary along with other forces across the country has staged a moment of silence today to remember those who have been killed as a result of the terrible events at the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo yesterday.

“We have sent through an photo of our event to colleagues in Paris as part of a national show of solidarity. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those who died at this dreadful time.”
