An award-winning Hatfield artist is holding her first major exhibition at St Albans Museum.

Katie Aggett won the chance to show off her work in last year’s Eastern Approaches competition, triumphing over artists from across East Anglia.

The 26-year-old from Hatfield is a graduate of Slade School of Fine Art in London and artist-in-residence at Queenswood School in Potters Bar, and since winning in December has developed a new body of work for the UH Galleries space at the museum.

Her exhibition, Written in the Corners of Streets, sits between the fields of sculpture and drawing and is inspired by changing architecture and city spaces, particularly the clash of rapid developments and compressed urban environments. The artwork is titled after specific postcodes with each location’s changing architecture and space being a base for the way the artwork develops and grows.

Katie says: “It has been wonderful to work with UHGalleries and to be exhibiting in my home county.”

Katie will give a free short talk about her work on Thursday, July 24 at 7pm at the museum.

Museum of St Albans, July 25 to September 7, Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm. Details: herts.ac.uk/about-us/arts-and-galleries/whats-on
