Colourful costumes and attractive displays, dance, music, dog agility and a carnival parade, all this and much more is on offer at South Harrow’s annual Roxeth Show, sponsored by the Harrow Times, which takes place on the weekend of Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11.
This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the family friendly show and is the 11th year that the dedicated team of volunteers from Harrow and Pinner Lions has been organising this great day out, that’s suitable for the whole community.
A spokesperson from Harrow and Pinner Lions Roxeth Show Committee says: “The main function of the show is to help unite the friendship of our local community and to help keep them advised of local issues, and to help other local charities and businesses with their endeavors.”
As well as entertaining residents, the show plays a very important part in fundraising activities to help local charities. Fundraising events running on both days include a name the dog competition, guess the number of dog biscuits in the jar, teddy tombola, plus proceeds from the sale of bric-a-brac and RSPCA Items.
Schools from the area have their big moment on Saturday as they join the parade for the HA2CANDO carnival, which is returning for it’s 7th year and promises even more spectacular creations made by the children themselves.
New for this year is the craft marquee, where visitors can try their hand at pottery, making handmade dolls clothes, arts and crafts items as well as jewellery and gifts.
On both days, there will be agility dog displays, dance from Kidology, a funfair, games, quad bikes, bouncy castle, circus skills workshop with Nutty Norman, who will also be providing some shows in the arena for children. Thed majorette groups on Saturday include Watford & Wembley Eclipse Majorettes & Attwirlettes, Attwirlettes will also be doing a display on Sunday.
There will be refreshments and a licensed bar, services such as diabetes testing, plus stalls by Harrow Council, Harrow Libraries & Museum, First Greenford Scout Group, First Roxeth Scout Group, Feltham Sea Cadets, Northwood Lions, Northolt Lions, Harrow Borough District Scouts Association, Sixth Roxeth Scout Group. Harrow Fuschia Society will be selling plants, SHARRA will be promoting its Residents Association and there will be stalls from St Luke’s Hospice, Safer Neighbourhoods Police, gifts from Lovely Giftbags and Giftylicious, WEE handmade clothing, candles, knitwear and sweets from C Ponting and Amy, the psychic medium will be on hand for readings.
The Fire Brigade from Northolt Fire Station, police horses and a police helicopter will all be attending on Sunday, depending on availability. Prizes for the Harrow Times art competition will also be awarded on Sunday and the show raffle will be drawn.
Harefield and Hillingdon Hospital Radio will also be broadcasting through the event and The Fun Dog Show in association with the RSPCA will start from 12noon on Sunday.
The classes are: Junior Handler: 8-11 years, Junior Handler: 12-15 years, Prettiest Bitch, Most Handsome Dog, Cutest Puppy (under 12 months), Waggiest Tail, Scruffiest Dog, Fastest Bonio Eater, Dog in Best Condition, Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home and Best Rescue Dog.
The show takes place on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 from 11am to 5pm both days at Roxeth Recreaction Ground, Eastcote Road, South Harrow. Admission is free.
