APTLY-titled St Albans punk band Bright Conclusions are celebrating after winning this year's Battle of the Bands contest at The Horn.

The four 18-year-olds, who released their first EP Psycho last year, fought-off competition from a trio of up-and-coming Hertfordshire bands to take the £750 prize money.

The band's line-up includes Jason Hewitt on lead vocals, rhythm and lead guitar, Harry Logan singing backing vocals and playing rhythm and lead guitar, James Agar on drums and Jordan Miller also providing backing vocals and bass.

Nicholas Breakspear School student Jason spoke to Hannah Worrall about on-stage injuries, the band's first-ever gig and their collective love of the Foo Fighters.

How does it feel to have won Battle of the Bands this year?

Honestly, I could feel better. Don't get me wrong everyone has been great but its now a case of stepping up our game again and making sure people feel we earned it as a lot of the other bands in the competition were amazing.

What was your performance like on the night?

The performance was usual and by that I mean we had no idea what was going on. In terms of nerves I don't think the rest of the band were nervous at all, even I was quite confident that even if we didn't win we'd put on a great show. Then I saw the crowd and I got a little scared.

Why did you decide to give Battle of the Bands a go this year?

We entered on a whim and we were pretty sure we going to get kicked out in the first round. But somehow we got through and then just went mad promoting the rounds and perfecting our live show. For a band doing any sort of competition like this for the first time,we loved every second of it.

Can you remember your first-ever gig as Bright Conclusions?

The first public gig we ever did was an open mic night at a pub called the Fighting Cocks. It was strange to go from that to places like The Pioneer Club and The Horn, as crowds there go absolutely mental, though it did prepare us for our gigs outside of the county.

How would you describe your sound?

Loud and not to be read into too much.

What’s the most rock’n’roll thing you’ve done as a band?

I'll state what happens off-stage stays off-stage. Take that as you will, however due to us possibly being mental there have been a lot of accidents which could be quite rock'n'roll on stage. For example I have countless injuries to do with interacting with crowds at shows and falling off various stages and riggings.

Which bands inspire Bright Conclusions?

Honestly we all have different inspirations. Harry loves almost anything. Jordan is a metal head. James loves indie with notable bands being Modest Mouse or Pond. I am more of a ska kid obsessed with Reel Big Fish, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and such. We all seem to have a keen love of the Foo Fighters however.

Who writes your music – what’s that process like?

Originally I wrote all the songs but over time the others have been more confident in putting forward their ideas which have led to some great songs.

What’s your plan for the future?

To do it bigger and better than it has ever been done. Or make a living wage out of it - we're happy with either. Maybe even both, but there are still some big hurdles to cross.
