ST Albans has long been a great city for music and in the coming months an eclectic array of sonic-treats are lined up to continue that tradition.

From the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the Alban Arena (September 23) to the classic sounds of legendary ska group UB40 at The Forum Hertfordshire (October 22) - there really is something for everyone.

At Hatfield House soak up the drama of Puccini's heartbreaking opera Madame Butterfly (September 9), followed by a musical trip to Vienna at the fourth annual Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival (September 24).

Over at the Harpenden Public Halls catch Laurence Jones and Red Butler (September 15), British blues band King King (October 23), BBC6-music DJ Tom Robinson and his band (October 30) and disco star Roy Ayres (December 2).

Back at the Alban Arena let yourself be drawn in to Verdi's operatic tale of Parisien courtesan Violetta Valéry in La Traviata (September 24) and enjoy the sounds of award-winning singer-songwriter Judy Collins (October 21).

Talented guitarist Robert Cray brings his band to the Arena for a night of blues and soul music (October 23), while classical BRIT-nominated singer Rhydian is also set to perform with special guest Lucy Kay (October 30).

Also at the Alban Arena are Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene (November 1), a night of musical theatre-themed fun with Gareth Gates and Michael Courtney (November 7) and brilliant American vocal group The Stylistics (November 20).

The Horn has a jam-packed programme of live music for the winter months, including teen-anthem rockers Wheatus (September 21), rock duo Dolomite Minor (September 24) and The Picturebooks - a German guitar band boasting superb beards - (September 27).

Kick-starting October at Victoria Street-venue is former guitarist for David Bowie and The Cure, Reeves Gabrels (October 7) and Britpop group Space (October 22).

All this and much more is lined up to keep St Albans dancing well up to Christmas time.
