Following a sell-out concert earlier this year, world-renowned violinist Jennifer Pike is returning to perform with the Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra in support of local charity, the A-T Society.

The concert includes Dvorák’s beautiful Violin Concerto in A minor and Beethoven’s much-loved seventh symphony, which the German composer Richard Wagner called the “apotheosis of the dance”.

Jennifer sprang to prominence in 2002 when at the age of 12 she became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. Since then she has played at some of the greatest music venues around the world and performed with top orchestras.

Jennifer will be accompanied by one of Hertfordshire’s premiere music ensembles, Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Bloxham.

The orchestra, made up of talented amateur musicians from Hertfordshire and nearby counties, has worked with many conductors and soloists who have gone on to major careers.

All proceeds from this concert will go to support the work of Harpenden-based charity, the A-T Society. A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia in full) is a genetic condition affecting children and young adults which causes progressive physical disability, complicated by immunological problems.

The charity was founded in 1989 and run for many years by a Harpenden couple who had two children with A-T. The A-T Society now provides support to families across the UK and Ireland and funds medical research internationally.

William Davis, chief executive of the A-T Society, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jennifer and the Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra back to Harpenden to perform again in aid of the A-T Society. A-T is an incredibly tough diagnosis for a young family. They need help with healthcare, equipment, housing, education – everything really – and then they want research to find a cure.”

“The A-T Society provides all this – but A-T is often overlooked for the better-known diseases. This concert will bring not just valuable funds, but invaluable publicity – not to mention the chance to escape the stresses of disease and winter darkness listening to Jennifer Pike playing Beethoven and Dvo?ák.”
