Doctors' sun warning
AS thermometers soar in an unusually warm May, doctors are warning people to stay safe in the sunshine.
They are advising people to avoid going outside at the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm, drink plenty of liquids and use sunscreen of at least factor 15.
Symptoms of heatstroke include headache, nausea, intense thirst, sleepiness, hot red and dry skin, a sudden rise in temperature and loss of consciousness.
Public health consultant for the Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust Dr Raymond Jankowski said: "I want people to enjoy the sunshine but to do it safely. If you follow this common sense approach you can do both.
"Extreme heat can seriously damage your health. During a heatwave when temperatures stay really high day after day it can sometimes be fatal."
