Television and film crews could be heading to St Albans thick and fast as the council has teamed up with a screen agency.

Creative England Location and Production Service will now be promoting different areas of the city.

As part of the partnership, Creative England will research and photograph potential locations to attract the attention of location and production managers.

St Albans has already featured in films Johnny English, Harry Potter and Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Councillor Beric Read, portfolio holder for community and engagement and localism for the council, said: "We are pleased to be working with Creative England to help film and TV producers and location managers find suitable locations in the district.

"We have many great locations for film and TV productions, including medieval streets, beautiful parks and some wonderful historic buildings.

"Filming brings benefits for the district by boosting the local economy and attracting new visitors who want to see the locations for themselves."

The council is keen to attract more filming in the city as it can generate up to £30,000 per day from hotels, security and catering.

Hayley Armstrong, Creative England’s production liaison manager for the East of England, said: "In 2009/10 location filming was worth an estimated £20 million to Hertfordshire, and with studio space across the county booked for 2013, this trend is set to continue.

"St Albans has starred on the big and small screen many times over and we invite residents and businesses to consider taking advantage of the economic benefits filming can bring by registering their properties as potential locations on our database, and their skills and businesses on our crew and facilities pages."
