St Albans fire station has welcomed a new fire engine fully equipped with features to tackle rescue accidents.

The fire engine, which used to be located in Hatfield fire station, has been moved to the station in London Road because it is a more central location and has a 24-hour crew member presence.

Crew members will benefit from rescue features including a chainsaw to tackle tree accidents and a mounted winch and acrow props to tackle trenches and collapsed buildings.

The new appliance, which will be used countywide, will assist firefighters when they are attending accidents including heavy vehicles and accidents with three or more vehicles involved.

Trevor Ray, watch commander on white watch, said: "Crew members here will benefit from learning and picking up new skills.

"They will be attending courses to learn about how to use the new equipment and it will give them experience when attending road traffic accidents."
