Two busy roads in St Albans that were forced to close following a fire in Potters Crouch will continue to be monitored during the day.

The westbound carriage of the A414 was closed again last night, following fire service concerns over embers drifting into the road and the A4147 remained closed during the night.

Both roads have now re-opened again this morning following a two-day closure as a result of the blaze which started at the recycling centre in Appspond Lane in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Highways Agency has said it will continue to monitor the situation during the day to decide whether the roads should stay open.

A spokesman from Hertfordshire County Council, said: "The roads are now open.

"We will continue to monitor the situation during the day and there is a possibility the roads may have to close again.

"The saftey of the public is the major criteria and if at any point it is deemed necessary, the roads will close again."
