A pub in St Albans is counting up the cash raised during a fundraiser held in aid of Help for Heroes.

The Plough in Sleapshyde collected £2,500 for the cause with a day of games, raffles and competitions.

Bill McGrath, who runs the pub with his wife Carol, said: “We had great support on the day from our customers old and new and we were delighted to have two former soldiers in attendance.

“We were also very lucky with the weather.”

An auction and a raffle were held during the day with prizes donated from local businesses up for grabs.

Mr McGrath added: “We would like to thank all our loyal customers, for their continued support and donations, without whom none of this would be possible.”

In total £2,272 was raised during the event, which was held on September 8, and the pub decided to round this figure up to £2,500.
