Park Street elects new parish councillor
More than 1000 people turned out yesterday to elect a new parish councillor for Park Street.
Nicholas Tyndale, who stood on behalf of the residents’ association, was named the winner.
He received 436 of the 1021 votes cast yesterday.
Mr Tyndale, who moved to Park Street with his wife five years ago, said: “I’m very pleased. I’m looking forward to getting on with the job.
“I am mostly pleased that residents decided to keep party politics out of it.”
The 46-year-old said that he was happy with yesterday’s turnout, especially compared to the 16.4% turnout for the Police and Crime Commissioner election.
He said: “It shows that people take a strong view on their local decision making.”
Liberal Democrat David Parry took second place with 367 votes.
18-year-old Josh Molloy received 114 votes and Marv Beszant, who ran independently, got 95.
