Visitors to St Albans will be able to explore the city easier, thanks to new information signs.
The district council will install signs in St Peters Street highlighting the main historic landmarks.
If the scheme is successful, more will be rolled out across the city centre next year.
The signs will highlight key locations and nearby shopping areas, as well as pictures of historic buildings and maps.
They will also include a QR code that people can scan with their smart phones and see the website.
Councillor Beric Read, portfolio holder for community engagement and localism at the council, said: "These signs are aimed at improving the experience of pedestrians, in particular visitors, as they make the way round the city.
"They reflect consultation with key community groups and include maps which highlight key buildings.
"They also clearly mark the main shopping areas to help visitors understand the wide range of shopping opportunities available to them."
