A residents group in St Albans is one of the first groups in the UK to receive a £10,000 Heritage Lottery Fund designed to celebrate local community heritage.
The Sopwell Residents Association has been granted an ‘All Our Stories Grant’ to go towards their project More Memories of Sopwell.
The £10,000 grant will go towards continuing the group’s oral history work and broadening their historical research including collecting reported facts and stories relating to the area.
Sandy Norman, from the residents association, said: “This is brilliant news for the Sopwell community and recognition of the work we have already done on recording our heritage.”
The All Our Stories Grant, is a brand new grant programme, launched earlier this year to support BBC Two’s The Great British Story- designed as an opportunity to get community groups involved in exploring and celebrating their local heritage.
