A residents' association in Smallford has received £9,900 Heritage Lottery Grant to celebrate their local history.

Volunteers from the Smallford Residents' Association have received the grant to go towards Bringing the History of Smallford Station to Life and will focus on the history of the town’s station, the Branch Line it served and the impact these had on the community.

The grant will provide the project with a series of workshops and a number of a range of visits to the National Railway Museum in York and the National Archives in Kew.

Jeff Lewis, chairman of the residents' association, said: "We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident the project will support many local people in following and developing their interests in a wide range of areas including researching, interviewing, creating videos, designing exhibitions, developing a website and writing stories.

"We are particularly excited at the thought of finding people who recall the station and branch line when they were operating and capturing their memories for posterity."
