An annual Scottish-themed fundraiser in Harpenden has raised more than £4,000 for charity.

Harpenden Lions’ Highland Gathering, which was held in Rothamsted Park on Sunday, July 14, raised £4,100 for the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance.

Members of the organisation have presented the charity with a cheque to help it continue the work it does around the county.

Talissa Fernando, the charity’s fundraising co-ordinator, said: "We were thrilled to receive this donation from the Harpenden Lions and the Highland Gathering was one of the highlights of our summer.

"Although we were unable to bring the helicopter due to the Olympic Flying ban in July, our mascot Pilot Pete and volunteers had a great time manning our stand amongst the kilts, bag piping, duck-herding and Scottish dancing.

"Not only have the Harpenden Lions raised significant funds for us, but they gave us an enviable opportunity to raise awareness in their area.

"We really appreciate all the time and effort they put in to make the event a success."
