Volunteers from St Albans have just returned from a trek to Base Camp Everest to raise £17,000 for a disability charity.

Jeanette Lendon from Redbourn and Nigel Minchin from St Albans, joined a team of volunteers on a three week trip of trekking through various locations including Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Thyangboche, Pheriche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep and Kala Pattar.

They ended their trek at Everest Base Camp by day ten.

In total the team climbed more than 5,000 metres and reached altitude heights of 5,623m to raise money for ReachOut Plus, a Hertfordshire based charity dedicated to helping people with disabilities and disadvantages.

The other members of their hiking team included Mark Hunter, Chris and Maggie Wright, Nicky Shaw and Ron Overton; ReachOut Plus’s director.

Mr Overton, said: "It was an amazing experience and the views were absolutely breath taking. "The trek itself was a lot harder than any of us were expecting but that just made the sense of achievement even greater.

"I am so grateful to all of my fellow trekkers for not only raising such a fantastic amount of money for ReachOut Plus, but for their enthusiasm and support on the trek."
