A car crashed into a jewellers in St Albans this morning following what police have described as a "suspicious incident".

Hertfordshire Constabulary have not been able to confirm whether the crash was an attempted robbery or if anything was stolen.

The car smashed into the side of Christopher Wharton in George Street at about 5.40am.

When police officers arrived the driver had left the scene.

Hertfordshire Constabulary are still making enquiries into the crash.

In July last year a man tried to break into the shop with a sledgehammer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

What a mess they made! The poor shop owners. It must be more than 5 times in recent years that this shop has been targeted. I feel for the owners who have to clear up the mess & watch their insurance premiums increase. It is time that we get bobbies back on the beat in St Albans doing regular patrols around the city center.
