The family of a St Albans schoolboy who passed away last year have donated a minibus to the youth club he used to attend.
George Darkins, 13, who lived in Langley Road, Watford, died at Watford General Hospital after paramedics were called to his home at 9.17pm on Monday, June 13.
A series of successful fundraising events organised by George’s family and friends have seen them buy a new minibus which they plan to donate to The Lions Den, a St Albans youth club that he attended.
His mother Caroline said: "It was very important to him, he absolutely loved it, he particularly loved the ride to The Lions Den.
"The bus is an integral part of The Lions Den and their current bus is falling apart, a lot of the children that go are underprivileged and the bus service is integral to them going."
The keys to 'George's Bus' will be officially handed over to the youth club at 7pm this evening (January, 4).
George was also a keen sportsman who played for both Fullerians Rugby Club and Langleybury Cricket Club and his family has also been able to donate funds to both clubs.
