Rail freight petition reaches halfway mark
A petition against a controversial train freight terminal in Park Street has reached the halfway mark, having collected more than 5,000 signatures.
Furious residents have signed the online list in force, in an attempt to convince Hertfordshire County Council not to sell or lease the land to developers.
Secretary of State Eric Pickles announced that the development could go ahead at the end of last year, despite objections from residents, politicians and councils.
The majority of people on the list are from the St Albans and Radlett areas, but residents from across the county have also signed.
The campaign group STRiFE hope to collect 10,000 signatures to highlight residents' opposition to the proposal.
So far the number stands at 5099.
