Funding for new museum approved by politicians

A new museum in St Albans has moved one step closer after politicians gave the funding plans the go-ahead.
The district council has drawn up a funding strategy to create a new museum in the Town Hall.
At a cabinet meeting on Thursday night, politicians agreed that the council should contribute £1.75m towards the £6.75m project.
At the end of last year the council applied for £3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The rest of the money will come from fundraising.
The St Albans Museum and Galleries Trust will set up a fundraising committee to organise events.
Councillor Mike Wakely, portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage at the council, said: “A clear funding strategy is in place to turn the old Town Hall into a wonderful new museum and gallery.
“This is an exciting time for St Albans Museums and I urge anyone interested in helping make these plans become a reality to come forward.
“Not only do we need monetary donations, we also need people to help organise fundraising events and to provide support in other ways.”
