A primary school in St Albans has been recognised for the way it teaches pupils about road safety.

How Wood Primary School, in Spooners Drive, was presented with a certificate by Hertfordshire County Council’s Safe and Sustainable Journeys Team on Monday.

Staff at the school have been running pedestrian lessons for Year 4 children since 2008.

Stuart Pile, executive member for highways and transport at the council, said: "The benefits for the pupils are huge - learning these skills leaves them better prepared for more independent journeys, especially when the time comes for their transfer to secondary school.

"They have led the way in promoting a safe and healthy environment for their pupils."
