Museum to launch storytelling competition

Children will be able to make up their own adventures for an old stuffed lion that lives under the stairs at the Museum of St Albans in a storytelling competition.

The museum is launching the competition, which is searching for budding young storytellers, on Sunday.

Tricia George, a professional storyteller, will read during the launch at the Hatfield Road museum.

African themed activities will also be available throughout the afternoon, which will run from 2pm until 5pm.

Councillor Mike Wakely, portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage at the district council, said: “This competition is open to everyone who feels inspired to create a story that links to an object owned by St Albans Museums.

“They will receive exciting prizes and be invited to tell their story to an audience at the Museum of St Albans on 25 May.”

The winner of the competition will be announced during National Share a Story Month in May.
