Redbourn beavers have attempted to break this year’s Guinness World Record by making a pasta chain over 500 metres as they vowed "to see their names in print".

On Saturday, the children gathered at Redourn Cricket Club to measure their pasta chain in an attempt to break the 500m record.

After hours of measuring by Revered Will Gibson, from St Mary's church, and a local surveyor, the pasta chain was measured in at 597.5m.

The beavers now have a nervous four week wait to find out if they have officially broken the record.

Beaver scout leader, Lesley Kinsella said the children were very excited:

"We were told we had to make a chain longer than 500 metres, so I am hoping we have done enough.

"One of the boys brought his Guinness World Records book from this year along, hoping we will soon see our names in it.

"I really do hope we will."
