Severe damage after flat blaze in St Albans

A fire tore through a flat in St Albans this afternoon causing a large amount of damage.

Firefighters were called to the ground floor property in Abbots Avenue West at about 2.30pm.

The blaze began in the kitchen causing severe damage and the rest of the flat was affected by large quantities of think black smoke.

Nobody was inside the property when the fire started.

Crews remained at the scene until about 2.40pm.
