Residents can sign paper petition in St Albans market tomorrow against rail freight terminal
5:30pm Friday 22nd February 2013 in News
By Rebecca Perring, Reporter
Residents who haven’t yet signed a petition against plans for a rail freight terminal in Park Street will have the opportunity to do so this weekend.
Campaigners will take to the streets tomorrow (Saturday) with their paper petition at a stall in St Albans market from 9:30am in a final big push before the petition closes.
The online petition, set up in January, aims to convince the county council not to sell the land needed to build a controversial rail freight near St Albans and Radlett.
Secretary of State Eric Pickles announced at the end of last year that the site will go ahead, despite objections from residents, politicians and councils.
So far the petition has collected 7966 signatures and the closing date to sign is March 31.
There is also a paper petition residents can sign at the Boot Pub in Market Place.
