A school in St Albans welcomed a chef into their doors to mark the opening of their new canteen.

Duck tongues and chicken’s feet were on the menu at St Albans School as Paul Smith, a Chef at Chartwell Catering, was personally on hand to tempt the pupils and staff with Asian delicacies, using the canteen’s new kitchen facilities.

The new canteen, built on the footprint of the old gymnasium, now seats up to 250 pupils and staff.

Headmaster Andrew Grant says the space enables the school to offer a better variety of menus as well as providing more choice for breakfast and snacks at breaks.

Mr Grant said: "Feeding the pupils well balanced and nutritious food on a daily basis is a priority here, especially with the concerns over obesity."
