A sports centre in St Albans is urging residents to sign up to take part in the World’s Biggest Swim to raise money for a cancer charity.
Westminster Lodge, operated by Everyone Active, is asking members of the community to take part in this year’s Swimathon, which will offer a range of distances and challenges to suit swimmers of all fitness levels in a 10-lane, 25 metre pool.
The event, which is supported by Olympian Duncan Goodhew, will raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Participants can choose from 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k distances and there are also team challenge distances of 1.5k and 5k. Teams can split the distance however they choose, to cater for the strongest and weakest swimmers in the squad.
Steve Cox, Everyone Active Centre manager said: "We are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause and encourage people in St Albans to get in the water and join this great fund raiser.
"Participants will have fun, contribute vital funds and improve their own fitness into the bargain. It’s a win-win situation."
The swimathon will take place on Saturday, April 27.
