Wayne Gerry from Park Street jailed for three years after biting man's ear

A Park Street man who bit off a chunk of a former friend's ear has been jailed for three years.

Wayne Gerry, of The Cottages, attacked David Parsons in an alleyway in the village and inflicted the terrible injury.

The pair had once been good friends and had worked together at Park Street Tyres.

But a week after the victim had left the company, Gerry attacked him on June 17 last year.

St Albans Crown Court was told Mr Parsons was making his way down the alleyway which ran beside Park Street Tyres.

Gerry, who was at work, spotted him and, with a tyre lever in his hand, jumped over a fence to confront him.

Mr Parsons managed to avoid being struck by the tyre lever but as he grappled with 38-year-old Gerry, he felt a pain to the top of his left ear.

Pater Shaw prosecuting said Gerry had bitten a "lump off."

In fact, the court was told, Mr Parsons didn't realise it at the time and it was only later at home that he realised part of the ear was gone.

The court was told he will require a lot of surgery to repair the damage.

Gerry pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Judge John Plumstead hearing the case was told Gerry was now full of remorse for what he'd done.

He was jailed for three years.
