Staff and punters at a St Albans pub donned leprechaun costumes and Guinness hats to celebrate St Patrick’s Day yesterday (Sunday).

O’Neill's in Victoria Street put on a day of live music to raise cash for Grove House.

Amanda Tanner, duty manager at the pub, said: "It was really good. Everyone was in really good spirits.

"It was a shame it was raining but people still came out.

"Everyone wants to do their bit to support a charity. It gave everybody a chance to donate."

Competitions, games and a raffle were held during the day to raise extra cash for the hospice, which supports people living with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Staff are still counting up donations but they have already raised £1,000 for the cause.

A troop of Irish dancers performed a number of traditional routines during the day.

Ms Tanner said: "I was really impressed.

"They dancers were received really well. People were mesmerised by them."
