Crowds turned out to see Scouts march through the streets of Harpenden on Sunday to mark St George’s Day.

Harpenden and Wheathampstead District Scouts organised the parade from Rothamsted Park through to the High Street, along with an annual service in the park to discuss the message of a world-wide family of Scouts.

Jane Murray, district commissioner, said: "There was a really good turn out and the children really enjoy marching along the streets. I think they feel rather happy and proud as they march along with crowds of people clapping them and cheering them on.

"During the service we got all the different groups in the district to split up from their Scout groups and get together with other groups.

"We want the Scouts to recognise that when a Scout is wearing the Scout membership badge they are all part of the world-wide family of Scouts."

The town's Mayor, Nicola Linacre, received the salute as the parade passed through the High Street.

She said: "It was a tremendous turn out and the children were so beautifully behaved.

"It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. The Scouts held a very lovely service and the whole day was full of huge energy and enthusiasm."
