A St Albans charity is delighted to be chosen as a local supermarket's charity of the year.

Sainsbury's in London Colney has picked Home-Start St Albans City & District as its charity of the year and colleagues will now concentrate their fundraising efforts for the coming year on the family support charity.

Lara Davis, charity trustee, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen by Sainsbury's colleagues as their nominated charity. Thanks to all the colleagues at the store.

“Not only will this help us raise the profile of Home-Start in our local community, but the additional income will help us to support even more families that need our help.

“We look forward to a great partnership with Sainsbury's."

The charity based in Spencer Street was chosen as a partner from a long list of 40 after a presentation to colleagues last week.

HR manager at Sainsbury's, Beverley Dee said: "Our colleagues choose the charity of the year and there was overwhelming support for the work that Home-Start volunteers do to support local families with young children when they need practical and emotional help.

“We're all looking forward to coming up with great ideas to boost the charity's funds over the coming year.

"And of course many of our customers have young families, so this is a charity that will resonate with them too."
