Hundreds of blue and yellow balloons have been released into the skies of St Albans by the city’s cathedral boys choir to raise £3,000 for their next tour.

The St Albans Cathedral Boys choir helped float a spectacular balloon race, which were bought from friends and family of the choir, congregation, locals and visitors to the Cathedral, since fundraising for the choir began on Easter Sunday.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

The 20 choristers aged between 8 and 14 years watched the balloon race start, after singing in the special Festival Evensong.

The choir, which comprises of pupils from Abbey Primary, St Columba’s, Beaumont, Verulam, Fleetville, Marlborough, Westbrook Hay, Parmiters, St Nicholas in Harpenden and St Mary’s in Welwyn held a similar race in 2009, with the the furthest returned balloons travelling as far the North Norfolk coast.

Recently back from a four day tour to Loreto in Italy, the boys hope to put this money towards their next tour.
